4 Principles Of Successful And Healthy Diet

 

The needs of losing weight and having an ideal body shape have been increasing enormously these years. Weight loss and diet industries have been competing to create programs that can guarantee the fastest, the simplest, and the most effective diet to lose weight. However, with those so many programs out there, with each one is claiming to be the best, customer must be more selective to choose a diet program to be applied. Which one guarantee a successful diet? And most importantly, which one guarantee the diet will not harm our health? These are detailed reviews of most common diets, and 4 principles of the most successful and healthy diet.

Wedding gown fitting is the moment when many of my girl friends decided to take an instant diet. When they found out that their waist sizes have been increasing, they got panic as the wedding day is approaching, and no matter what the gown must be fit on that special day. Here are what they would do:
 

Reduce the food intake (the quantity).
But when it did not give the expected result, they will change it to,

Skip one meal (usually dinner or breakfast).
When it did not work, they took an extreme step,

Do not eat carbohydrate for several days, only fruits and vegetables.
Then, their waist got smaller by each day. The wedding day is a huge success.

But after that?

 

As they have seen that the instant diet has worked, they would continue it. These moments are the most dangerous phase of a diet program. Once you feel it works, you tend to believe that you have done a great job, without considering whether the diet is safe for your health or not.

An instant diet such as reducing one of food components can cause a mal-nutrition. The symptoms are shallow face, tiredness, and even hair loss. When a woman is enthusiastic on her weight loss performance, she would ignore that condition as long as she lose her weight. Well...she did not realize that she has risk her health for several pounds of her weight!
 

Atkins Diet

After the world had believed that fat is the culprit of obesity problem, health organizations said “NO” to fat. They suggest people to have a low fat diet. However, when reducing fat did not immediately reduce weight, people come to a realization that there must be something wrong.

At that time, Dr. Atkins introduced his Atkins diet, a low or even zero carbohydrate diet by eliminating carbs and replace it with protein. Women followed this diet strictly, and they succeeded in a spectacularly short time.

The end result?

 
  1. After certain time, the weight loss speed became slower, and then stopped.

  2. There were complaints of ketoacidosis (unbalanced acid and base level in human’s body), and kidney health problems.


South Beach Diet

This is another low carbohydrate diet that is emphasizing in Glycemic Index (GI), numbers that is showing how quick a food is transformed into sugar. The quicker it is, the more dangerous the food is for your weight.

If you might have seen in many weight loss blogs and recipes, one of these women’s menu is chicken breast without skin, cooked in a microwave so no oil is needed. Sometimes they also reduce or delete salt in the cooking. People believe that by deleting carbohydrate from their diet, and replace it with protein from white meat, they will succeed their weight loss.

The facts are,

  1. By the large number of protein to be digested, your kidney will have to work much harder.

  2. By eliminating salt, your body liquid will be decreasing, and this condition will make your kidney even in worse condition.

That is why both Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet MUST be performed under a nutritionist or doctor’s supervision.


Food Combining

When many people realize the importance of healthy and safe diet, food combining becomes more and more popular. This diet divides foods into three categories: protein, carbohydrate, and fruits & vegetables. The concept is carbohydrate and protein cannot be consumed at the same time. You can combine carbs with fruits & vegetables, or protein with fruits & vegetables. For example you are allowed to eat fried chicken, as long as you combine it with vegetables only. Or you can have potato or sandwich with only vegetables or fruits.

The facts are,

  1. This diet seems to succeed a weight loss in a quite short time.

  2. Key of the success is in the non ordinary menu. We are familiar with carbs-protein-vegetables-fruits combination in our meals. And that combination give us a satisfaction feeling. By eliminating one of the food components, the satisfaction feeling and our appetite is decreasing. And at the end, of course we will lose some weights.


Blood Type Diet

One reason why blood type diet is not very easy to run, is the principle of the diet itself. We are allowed to eat certain food according to our blood type, but a problem occurred when there are more than one blood types in a family. Not mentioning the rhesus. Of course, it will be more simpler for single person, yet you still need to consult a nutritionist about the nutrition balance of the foods you are allowed to take according to your blood type.
 


Raw Foods Diet

Nature gives us the best. That also includes raw fruits and vegetables. So why don’t we increase our intake of fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber?

The facts are:

  1. Fiber can only work naturally when the foods are still in raw condition. Meaning not after being processed with blender or juicer.

  2. When you take a juice therapy, the same total calories will enter your body, either from a glass of juice or a portion of salad. The problem is, you might get satisfied after eating a plate of salad, but what about only a glass of juice?

  3. As you still feel hungry after having a glass of juice, you will have another glass or even add another portion of fruits. Meaning, that in the end you will consume too much calories that your body need it.


Brown Rice

Brown rice has been a choice for fiber rich diet, and its vitamin B level makes brown rice to be next favorite health food. What about diet? Several people said they lost their weight after including brown rice into their diet.

The fact is:

If you are not familiar with a food, and you are still in adaptation process, your appetite will be decreasing. But after certain period of time, your body will adapt. And at this period, you will start enjoying the food, total food intake will be increasing, and your previous weight will return.

 

4 Principles Of Successful And Healthy Diet

#1: Know your own condition
Check your health condition before running on a diet. Good health will ensure a successful diet.

#2: Set a weight loss target
Set a reasonable target for your ideal weight by considering your health and condition. Don’t do extreme food reduce to speed up your weight loss. You can reduce the quantity, but not the nutrition. Always eat food that can support a healthy life. Natural foods are the best choice.

#3: The importance of taste
The food you eat must have a good taste and give you a satisfaction feeling. By always keeping this principle, you can have a long term diet with good result. Remember, that the satisfaction feeling could be fulfilled physically-through the food, and psychologically, through your
mindset.

#4: Set a time target
When you are running on a diet, you are actually giving a kind of pressure to your body. That is why setting a time target is very important, as you won’t want to over-punish your health with your hard diet. After achieving the time target, let your body rest to regain your balanced health.

By performing those principles, and supporting your diet with weight loss exercise, you can achieve your weight loss target without sacrificing your health.
